Where we work in Anne Arundel County
We started in Calvert County and the Route 2 and Route 4 commute brought us north. The western half of the county, from Crofton and Odenton out to Severn, is mostly planned subdivisions built from the 1970s through the 2010s, with attached garages and 150 to 200 amp panels. The northern half around Glen Burnie and Pasadena is older. Ranchers and split-levels from the 1950s to the 1970s, often on 100 amp service, with the car in a driveway or a detached garage out back. Those two housing types need different installs, and the town pages below spell out what we usually find in each.
BGE territory, and what that changes
Anne Arundel County is served by BGE, not SMECO, so the utility side of the job is different from our Calvert work. BGE will not pay for the charger or the install. What it does offer is the Smart Charge Management program: enroll a connected Level 2 charger, or a compatible vehicle, and BGE credits your bill $10 a month per enrolled charger, up to $120 a year. Pair it with the BGE EV time-of-use rate and BGE puts the combined savings at up to $240 a year. The details and the current eligible charger list are on BGE’s Smart Charge Management page.
You may still see older pages promising a one-time BGE charger rebate. Those programs are closed: the $300 rebate ran in 2019 for a fixed number of customers and the later $50 Home Charging Incentive stopped taking applications. We checked BGE’s site before writing this, and we will not quote you a rebate that no longer exists.
The Maryland rebate still applies
The Maryland Energy Administration residential EVSE rebate covers 50 percent of the charger and installation cost, up to $700, for a Level 2 charger installed at your home. It is a state program, so it works the same in Anne Arundel County as it does in Calvert. You apply after the install is done and paid in full, with the invoice and permit paperwork we give you. Funding for the current year runs until it is gone, so the sooner the install closes out, the better your odds. Our rebate guide walks through the application step by step.
Permits and inspection in Anne Arundel County
Every charger we install in the county goes in under an electrical permit from Anne Arundel County Inspections and Permits, pulled by the licensed electrician doing the work. The county inspects the finished circuit before the charger goes into daily use. We handle the application, schedule the inspection and give you the final paperwork, which you will need for the Maryland rebate anyway.
What a typical job costs here
A straightforward Level 2 install in a Crofton or Odenton garage, with the panel nearby and room for a new 50 amp breaker, usually lands between $800 and $1,500. A Glen Burnie or Pasadena rancher with a 100 amp panel and a detached garage can run higher: a panel upgrade adds roughly $2,000 to $3,500, and a trench to the garage adds for the distance. We quote the whole job after seeing the panel and the parking, never off a price sheet. The ranges are broken down in our cost guide.
